The EU has been promoting multiple initiatives to strengthen its military capabilities, in both strategic and operational terms, such as the Capability Development Plan (CDP), the Permanent Structure Cooperation (PESCO), the Coordinated Annual Review on Defence (CARD) and the European Defence Fund (EDF). In particular, the EDF is of utmost interest, as it allocates funds to research and capability development projects, thus representing a stimulating and changing environment for EU industries, academia and practitioners to share and join their expertise for the purpose of defence innovation.
Z&P is taking part in this game, having won two PADR (Preparatory Action on Defence Research) projects and one EDIDP (European Defence Industrial Development Programme) project: both initiatives have been preparatory framework for the upcoming EDF. In the years 2021-2027, €7.953 billion will be devoted to the fund, to support defence research and capability development, while boosting the EU defence industry. Z&P will treasure the previous successful experiences and keep participating to the upcoming calls, looking to enhance the EU defence.
